No new e-mails is actually a good thing

That's the message Gmail shows me when there are no e-mails in my Inbox (because I just spent some time going through all of them to reach Inbox Zero).

It's funny that the message seems to imply that having no new mails is a bad thing (and that I should head over to Google Reader to read some news while I wait for new e-mails to arrive), when, actually, having no mails in my inbox is exactly what I was going for.

Maker's Schedule, Manager's Schedule

Those of us on the maker's schedule are willing to compromise. We know we have to have some number of meetings. All we ask from those on the manager's schedule is that they understand the cost.

Paul Graham explains the differences between makers (who work in half-day intervals) and managers (who work in one-hour intervals) and their schedules. Meetings are much more costly for makers than for managers, because they essentially take up half a day that can't be invested into other work.
